This is my Ferguson T20 TE20 TED20 (That's petrol/TVO fuel) tractor which is for sale. I have owned it for more than 25 years and it has been my No.1 working tractor on my smallholding all that time. Here it is shifting firewood in the last week of 2007. I'm selling it, as it will shortly be replaced by a very special Massey Ferguson 135. The tractor has a cornish registration number *AF *** and an old V5 document as proof, so the original registration could be reclaimed at any time. It would make a super smallholder's tractor or, with a little fettling, could be shown in its existing working condition. The price is £1200. That's £800 for the tractor and £400 for the loader, but I won't split. I may be able to transport to Devon/Cornwall at £1.00 per mile each way.
The tractor will be sold with the original MIL hydraulic front loader, but the roll-over bar and the transport box are NOT included in the sale. (I may have a different rollover bar for sale by then). As far as work is concerned, the front loader is as valuable as the tractor, and is used for everything from building works, to engine replacement, to rebuilding hedgebanks, stripping turf, pulling out fence posts, and generally lifting heavy stuff. Once you have a front loader, you will never want to use a tractor without one. It would also make a good rally exhibit, as you won't often see one on the rally field. (they are just too useful!)
During all the time it has been owned by me the tractor has been kept in my garage (in preference to my wife's car!) and has been maintained to a high standard. Everything works as it should. The wing skins have been replaced recently due to the usual Fergie problem that they rust through at the bottom. The front loader has been stored outside, but has been painted every few years with black bitumen paint to prevent deterioration. The tractor has never been repainted.
Tyres are 80% front (Firestone) and 80% rear (Semperit). Because they have been kept out of the sunlight, crazing is negligible.
The Engine was totally rebuilt in 1984 with new liners, pistons, top end overhaul, and new clutch. Since then I estimate it has done a few hundred hours work. Since that time it has been maintained to the same standard as all my vehicles and plant......if it needs doing, it gets done. A workshop manual reprint is included.
Here's what is not original:-
Distributor. Wing skins (brand new). Seat pan. Check chains (brand new). Water pump (I have kept the original for reconditioning) It has been converted to 12 volt with an alternator, but I have kept all the original 6 volt Dynamo, regulator, and coil and fixings/connectors etc. Hydraulic rams were rebuilt three years ago, and the original pipes have been replaced with quick connectors so the rams can be removed for storage. (I have kept the original pipes and connectors for refurbishment if required).
Here's a list of original accessories which ARE included in the sale:-
Adjustable trailer drawbar, of the kind which bolts on under the axle. Nine hole draw bar with adjustable stays. Fixed stays to lock the hydraulic arms when you use the front loader. Adjustable single top link. But I can't find the PTO cover.
Using the tractor with a topper:-
I have used the Ferguson TED20 TE20 T20 with a 4 foot Teagle pasture topper for several years. If you want to do the same you will need a one-way clutch on the PTO to prevent the topper driving the tractor with the clutch down, but there are still two problems to overcome. With the one-way clutch, the PTO rattles fit to bust, and the hydraulics have no positive height control, so if you're not very careful you will smash the PTO shaft when raising the topper. I made a support bearing for the one-way clutch which stops the shaft rattling, and an add-on for the hydraulic control mechanism to give a positive height control. These are available for sale at an extra cost of £60.00 for the lot if required. If not I'll sell them on ebay.
